Popeye’s Chicken Sandwich

It’s a chicken sandwich. How many things can you do to/add to/change about a chicken sandwich?

Popeye’s has been having this swell of attention over it’s chicken sandwich. So much so that it sold out for a period of time and had to re-group to re-introduce it on their menu.

Something about a supply chain issue?…

That means the supplier they used for chicken couldn’t get enough product to them to be able to meet the demand. But it’s chicken…

I’m trying to figure out from where this surge came. Did they not have a chicken sandwich before now? Is it a new recipe for their chicken sandwich? Didn’t have answers so I called the company’s consumer hotline and got the following answers:

“This chicken sandwich was introduced over the summer, then re-introduced on November 3rd.”

“Popeye’s did have a chicken sandwich on the menu before. But, this version is a new recipe.”

Chick-fil-A has a chicken sandwich… Burger King has a chicken sandwich… Subway has a chicken sandwich! Everyone has a chicken sandwich so, what’s so special about this one?

I don’t know. And the company – of course – would not disclose the recipe. BUT, I have tried it. And I’m here to report… It is quite tasty…

I’ve had lots of chicken sandwiches in lots of different places. Haven’t we all. We even get tired of chicken as some point, and have to take a break from it, right?

Well, we’re gonna call this one, variety is the spice of life. It’s different. Surprisingly…

It is a fried chicken breast. On a sweet bun. With pickles. I even added mayonnaise. So that all sounds very familiar, correct… (Chick-fil-A)

The secret is in the breading and the spices. The pickles too. Different…

I went to Popeye’s twice to see what all the news was about. First time, I left when I saw the lines in the drive thru and inside the store. Second time – not at peak lunch hours – the line was still wrapped around Popeye’s parking lot into the store lot behind them. And the line inside was back to the front door.

I waited. Took about thirty minutes. I got two. Was worth the wait.
I will go again and I will wait again. You should go too.
Recommendation: Go during off peak hours to reduce the wait time…
