UPS = Bad Business

The people who work at UPS don’t understand customer service. Let me tell you why…

So I had a package that was being sent to me from a retailer. I gave the retailer my complete address. The retailer sent the package.

I got home to a note from UPS that said, “We are unable to deliver this package(s) because APARTMENT NUMBER NEEDED, NOT DELIVERED.” I looked at the address to make sure the retailer had put my unit number on the label. My unit number was on the label… in fact, the unit number was BIGGER than the rest of the address.

I called UPS. I got a representative. I told her that I had a note stating that the unit number was missing from my address, but, the label clearly shows the unit number. She looked at the address as well on her end and confirmed that the unit number was on the label. She apologized for the mix up…

She then said she didn’t have a way to get the package re-delivered and I would have to go pick it up at the UPS service center. I’m not going to continue recanting the story from this point because I’m sure you all know where this goes from here…

Needless to say, the package was re-delivered the next day. I saved the packaging and I’m having them framed because, its unbelievable…

WTF. Now, its bad enough that the delivery driver was clearly blind and dumb, but, to get a call at the service center, confirm the error was UPS, then suggest the consumer should be FURTHER inconvenienced is plain lunacy.

And no, we don’t have a better alternative. See, the beauty of free enterprise is that… If a retailer or service provider is bad, you can always move on to someone who is better. Shipping and package delivery is devoid of this dynamic.

We’ve seen surveillance videos of FedEx drivers tossing packages over fences with no regard for its contents…

The U.S. Postal Service is broke, so, their rates are prohibitively high and good luck with the package getting to its destination.

UPS is plain stupid.

The field is wide open. This is a business opportunity for someone… If I win the lottery, this is my first business venture…

Good luck shipping…
