Super Bowl XLVIII

WOW. I have to open this post with bewilderment at this game. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like that. Even the commentators were saying no one could have predicted this. I spent most of the game saying, “What is this I’m watching… I don’t understand what’s happening…” It was like divine intervention…

The quick recap: The Seattle Seahawks beat the Denver Broncos 43 to 8. The Seahawks WON the game and the Broncos LOST the game. It wasn’t even close. I don’t think the Broncos even scored until the 3rd quarter – in fact, they went into halftime at 22-0. Not even close…

But, what’s really sad is Peyton Manning. I’ve always been team Peyton and he usually delivers, but, he had a Tom Brady Super Bowl XLII day. Just couldn’t move the ball anywhere. In fact, the whole team had a Pats Super Bowl XLII day – fumbles, interceptions, turnovers. It just never got started for them. Likewise, the Seahawks had kismet…

Everything Russell Wilson threw landed, everything they ran pushed through, every turn over and fumble ended up in their hands. Kismet.

This was a hard call as well. Have always pulled for PM, but, Russell Wilson is a young, talented really optimistic athlete. Who doesn’t want to see those characteristics and qualities validated. He was the star of the show… until Bruno Mars showed up…

SUPER BOWL XLVIII HALFTIME SHOW: More admissions from me – I was not a Bruno Mars fan until I saw this halftime show. I am now a fan. Not to mention he collaborated with The Red Hot Chili Peppers of whom I am a fan.

I speak of music being too manufactured today, but, Bruno Mars actually sings and actually dances and actually performs. Love it. Need more of it.

The word is that his performance is being regarded as one of the best of all time. I wouldn’t argue with that. Good for Bruno Mars…

And who can talk about a Super Bowl and not talk about the commercials. Let me get what I didn’t like out of the way first: The Budweiser ads and the Doritos ads drove me nuts. I think because they’ve dominated Super Bowls for at least 20 years, they just have an automatic place. But, I think they’re trying to hard now.

They hit the jackpot many years ago, but, I don’t feel like they’ve moved forward or progressed in idea or interpretation. It’s just more of the same..

The ones that I did like: There were five – Turbo tax at the Prom, Weather Tech – “You can’t do that,” David Beckham H&M, SONOS hi fi system with the colored rooms glowing to music and the Bob Dylan Chrysler 200.

I also noticed a theme this year… at least half of the commercials went for the sentimental angle. Super Bowl commercials usually go for funny, humorous. Doritos can’t seem to let go of that… the others jumped on this year’s bandwagon… You decide of which you are a fan. I’m neither…

So, I walk away from Super Bowl XLVIII kinda numb… a bit in mourning for Peyton Manning and excited to see Russell Wilson play next year.

Not that any of that is going to stop me from praying for a Browns Super Bowl ring, but…

See you next year. BA
